Mahogany sapele

A beautiful hardwood species that is resistant to all weather influences. The wood is low maintenance, has a warm colour and is resistant to rain, sun and cold.

Provenance

Africa (Congo). Sustainably produced.

Wood description

This beautiful mahogany is a strong hardwood species with a lifespan of at least 10 years. The surface of mahogany is smoother than that of other hardwoods because it contains less wood pores and veins. This ensures a smoother result. Mahogany originally comes from the West Indies, from the deciduous tree Swietenia mahogany. It is a well-known wood species because of its recognisable reddish-brown colour. This hardwood is pink when freshly cut and quickly darkens to the typical mahogany reddish brown. It will get a silvery grey colour after a period of 3-6 months.

Maintenance

This wood has been specially treated without oil. This ensures that it is low maintenance, and an oil treatment is not necessary. Read more

Cleaning & tips

It is important that the wood can occasionally dry to prevent mould. This can be seen in black speckles on the wood. Treat mould with vinegar first. Only use heavier antifungal agents if this does not help. The special Spinwood protective cover also helps. You can use it in the autumn and winter months so that the garden bench is protected against rain, snow, and cold. We do not recommend the use of a high-pressure cleaner for cleaning your outdoor furniture. This can cause the structure of the wood to open and make the wood more susceptible to moulds and stains.

White balau

A very sustainable hardwood species that is resistant to all weather influences. The wood is low maintenance, has a warm colour and is resistant to rain, sun and cold.

Provenance

Southeast Asia

Wood description

Freshly coloured, the core of the wood is yellow to grey-brown, sometimes with a reddish tone. In daylight it colours quickly to brown and then slowly to dark brown. Balau has a fine and even structure and usually a strong cross thread. Apart from small bumps the wood is almost flawless. After 3 years there will be discoloration in the wood.

Maintenance

To prolong the life span and to slow down aging / discolouration we recommend treating the wood with oil twice a year. Use a natural wood oil such as Rubio Monocoat or a similar product. Applying a thin layer is sufficient. Read more
